Our Name
MARi’s name was inspired by the Mariana Trench, the deepest place on earth. Our platform allows individuals to collect, store, and leverage an infinite amount of data throughout their lifetimes, allowing them to gain an incredibly deep understanding of who they are and how to maximize their potential in the world.
To create even further depth, we allow people to voluntarily share specific data sets, so everyone can benefit from the community’s collective wisdom. This allows people to expand themselves and their careers along proven pathways to success.
Our Story
MARi was founded in 2011 by John Carney, an entrepreneur and adventurer continually seeking to validate the phrase “anything’s possible.” After over a decade of researching and reimagining how technology could expand human potential, John embarked on an expedition to help people maximize meaning, fulfillment, and contribution in their lives.
Research shows that when people select an inspiring and viable future, and combine it with personalized pathways and simple action steps to get there, they become more invested in and increase the likelihood of their success. A lover of big data, John envisioned how powerful it would be to cull career pathway information from generations of people to help a single child find unexpected avenues toward a rewarding future.
But he didn’t stop there. As an entrepreneur, John experienced first-hand how integral individual contribution is to organizational performance. What if, he thought, an open technology platform could support individuals to drive learning and mastery throughout their entire lives? How might that create a positive economic impact for individuals, organizations, and entire communities?
John knew that the key to making this a reality, in a workable and noble fashion, was that MARi needed to be architected and built as the central hub of a privacy-based ecosystem where individuals are the owners of, and have full agency over their own data. He made a commitment to collect, store, and make data actionable in service to the individual, allowing them to enjoy free, lifelong ownership of their own information.
In just three years, MARi launched an integrated K-career technology platform. MARi is in use today in both schools and organizations, leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning and natural language processing to build deeper insights, better engagement and faster outcomes.
